Tips & Safety
Candles:
-Always trim your wick to 1/8 inch before burning!!! You should also trim it every 4 hours (after extinguishing and cooling to room temperature), if possible.
-For extra safety (and re-purposing), we use removable labels. It's not required, but we do recommend removing the labels on the glass jar and leaving on the one on the lid. They are paper labels on a jar that gets hot, so it's just wise to remove them, at least in our opinion, if you are at all concerned about candle safety.
-The first time you burn a candle, you should let it burn for 1 hour for every 1 inch of the width of the candle. For example: 3 hours for a 3-inch wide candle. This complete wax pool is crucial to prevent permanent tunneling.
-Candles shouldn't burn for more than 4 hours at a time. Allow to cool for 2 hours, trim, and relight OR give that candle a break and switch it up with a new one!
-Always burn your candle on a heat resistant surface away from drafts. NEVER leave a candle unattended out of your line of vision!!! Keep candles up and out of harm's way of children and pets.
-Your candle should be thrown out when only 1/2 an inch of wax remains. This prevents possible heat damage to the jar and the surface it is on. The jar gets VERY hot once it gets to that point.
-Our candles have up to an 80 hour burn time, but there are variables that can change that number.
-Re-purposing jars: we don't personally recommend freezing the jars to remove the wax because, in our experience, the jars can break from the cold and it's not even that easy to remove the wax anyways. We prefer the method of boiling water. We use a tea kettle to boil water and pour it into our used candle. The wax will float to the top like a lava lamp then once cooled, will be solid and can then be removed. THIS IS DANGEROUS, USE PROPER CAUTION. We will not be held responsible for your mishaps, this is just the method that WE like to use.
Wax Melts:
-Use proper electric warmers or tea light warmers. We prefer hot plate warmers over light bulb warmers, as far as electric. 20w is a good way to go.
-To remove wax from your melter: we like to use cotton balls to soak up the wax.
-Don't put your warmer or dish in the freezer to remove wax! Quickly changing the temperature will cause ceramic to crack and break!
-We highly suggest purchasing some of our reusable wax warmer liners! You can melt the wax in them and when you're done, let it cool, pop it out and use the liner again! Get a few so you can easily swap melts without waiting!
-We often get the question, how long does the scent last in wax melts? Well, that really depends on the scent, cure time, your warmer, etc. There are lots of variables and there is no definitive answer. We really just melt ours until we can't smell it anymore! Simple as that. We usually melt 1/2 of a scent shot or 2 cubes from a clamshell for a day and call it good. Sorry, we don't have a better answer than that lol
-Don't leave your wax warmer on for 24 hours a day. Give it a rest after a while! You shouldn't leave it on overnight while you're sleeping either. While safer than a lit candle, you can still run the risk of something bad happening.
-Do not chop your wax with a knife! Do yourself a favor and purchase a wavy soap cutter!
